Wednesday 2nd December 2015

Today room 17 and I went to swim for life safety program in the school pool. 

Tracey the swim for life teacher taught us how to do the line, huddle and chain it was fun and challenging because every time one person in our group touched the ground or let go of the group everyone in it had to do five push ups.

Then we fell back into the pool did a mushroom float then did the survival backstroke while there was a whirlpool. Doing swim for life is fun and safe for when your near water.

Rainbows End

Friday 27th November 2015

Yesterday some other students and I went to Rainbows End with Ma Te Hira for a thank you from her.

When we got there Ma Te Hira went and payed for our wristbands. After we all got our wristbands we split into three groups of four in my groups. In my group I had Keishana, Liona and Lirsah-Joe. We mainly went on the Invader and the Roller coaster because they were the super cool rides to us. We also went on the power surge which almost made me throw up because you twist and turn everywhere. After that we went on the amazing gold rush and log flume, the gold rush made me really excited because you go into an abandoned mine with lots of spooky skeletons and the track turns unexpectedly. With the log flume you go into a cave with lots of elves which look creepy but sing "Merry Christmas",  But overall I really liked the Invader we were all so happy and thankful to Ma Te Hira for taking us to Rainbows End

The Mysterious Glow-Worms

WALT: exchange boring words for exciting words.

Flowing water going into the gloomy cave. Just looking at the ceiling and all you could see is  pitch black but lighting the path, glow-worms. Shining like millions of diamonds and wriggle like their in a sleeping bag and web like tassels hanging.

Today for writing we used onomatopoeia to describe the fireworks also using adjectives and verbs.
We watched a video of fireworks and listened closely to the sounds of the fireworks and wrote down words to describe the fireworks in the video then we made a word cloud of the words.

Art with Matua Brent

Yesterday Room 17 had Matua Brent and we had a Concertina pictures which was really cool. First we drew our design then went our it in vivid and drew the exact same copy the colored then in differently or made the features of the copy oppisite of the first picture. After we did all of that we ruled out 5cm apart from 0 and ruled down then cut them out and put the copy of each cut out strip in and glued them in order on a piece of paper then folded the paper like a Concertina then we took photos. It was pretty cool and fun to make a Concertina picture.

My Production Feelings

Heart pounding, legs shaking, lips quivering. Standing behind the curtains just waiting for the to be drawn, getting prepared for our turn to go on stage and sing our song “ I’m A Parrot”. I can’t stop myself from thinking of singing ‘“I’m A Parrot” but i have to concentrate on when everybody is moving.

My buddy's standing in front of me waiting impatiently too, jiggling and wobbling in front of me. I'm thinking if they’re ready to sing.I wonder  if  they are  nervous?  
Then I hear our intro line “What exactly is it?”

The Symposium

20th Tuesday October 2015

Today Myself, Liona, Jack and Jamie-Leigh we showcasing Reading Eggs and teaching other students how to use it and all of the different types of books you could read in the library. We also showed all the other aspects of Reading Eggs. ( the Mall, Apartment, Library, Arcade and the English Skills tests. ) Also we read books with the kids and did quiz's and showed them the rewards you collect after the book and most of the kids enjoyed coming into our class and excited to use Reading Eggs.

Elephant Toothpaste Experiment

WALT: Write a recount using descriptive language.

Today room 17 did an experiment on elephant toothpaste to investigate if the experiment actually was going to work.

Firstly, Mrs Wallace gathered the ingredients and measured them out exactly how the book said to. She then told us to come outside and gather around the table to get ready for the wild and wacky experiment.

Secondly, Mrs Wallace mixed the warm water and yeast together with the hydrogen peroxide, dish washing liquid and the food coloring. Then we added them all together.

Finally, we curiously waited for about 30 seconds and… it erupted like an active volcano. It looked really frothy from the yeast because it has enzymes in it and causes a chemical reaction. We all took a whiff and there was a rancid smell that was so terribly horrid. I felt really fired up and happy that the experiment worked but even though it smelt revolting it was still cool and fun.

This was a recount of when we made elephant toothpaste.

Investigating Fungi

WALT: write a recount about a science experiment

On a Tuesday Mrs Wallace told us that for reading we were going to be reading a book called “Investigating Fungi” so then Mrs Wallace red it to us and after she did we told us that we were going outside to find some fungi.

Firstly we set off for the school forest, we arrived and we scattered all over the forest but sadly we did not find any fungi in the forest. So we raced to the path by the school pool and struggled to find any, then we found some in a tree and it was jelly fungi room 17 all were so amazed.

Secondly all of room 17 split up into little groups and searched all around the school and the group that I was in raced for the backfield, and we found a couple of gill fungi and I found some more jelly fungi on a piece of dying  wood. Then we meet up with Mrs Wallace’s group and they took some photo’s of me holding the piece of wood and then we went back to class.

Finally on Friday room 17 made some bread using a breadmaker in class and we used yeast, flour,salt,sugar,water and oil. Later on in the day the bread was made we put butter and creamy blue cheese on it I didn’t really like the cheese that much but I loved the bread and the reason we made bread was because yeast comes from fungi I think and the creamy blue cheese has molds like fungi I think and that was our science experiment.

I Think We Should Have Passion Week Because...

Hi my name is Daniel and I am here to convince you that we should have passion week.

Firstly, I think we should have passion week because  it is fun to learn a new skill and learn something new. We can  actually do something that we enjoy and we can do something with our friends in different classes if they have things in common.

Secondly, we should get to pick more passion’s  because it gets a little, no really boring, when you’re only doing one  passion. If you have to finish a project you can just go back when you rotate back to that passion.  

Thirdly, we are actually doing maths, reading and writing in some of our passion’s.  But on the other hand, some of us like doing those subjects with our normal teacher.  So this takes me to my conclusion.             

In conclusion, I think we should have passion week at least 3 times a week because some of us still want to be with our normal teachers and we still want a little fun sometimes.

The Duffy Show

The Duffy Show
WALT: Use amazing adjectives to describe an event.

On a chilly wednesday we went to the duffy show. We saw Duffy, Sienna and Miss Mani. Then duffy found Sienna a Harry Potter book because she really liked watching Harry Potter on T.V. Next the computer came in and told Duffy and Sienna that they could scope around the “ROWL” section for the Harry Potter books.After that Duffy shouted out “say wind guardian leviosa” to put “WROL” into “ROWL” then Duffy and Sienna found the harry   
Then her imagination took her into the story and she saw Harry and Hermione and they had a mysterious plant that kept screaming every time they pulled it out it was a high pitched screech then Sienna kept doing it and it was very annoying but funny at the same time.
